Road to Egypt Pattern

This replicates a pattern used on the back panel of a 1930s Yibna dress archived by the Palestinian Heritage Foundation, and curated by Hanan Munayyer. Yibna was part of Ramleh until 1931, subsequently becoming part of Gaza until 1948. The pattern showcases the Road to Egypt motif along the border. The Road to Egypt motif, known as Tareeq Masr, has ancient origins, traced back to knitted samples from the 13th and 14th centuries. Both knitting and cross-stitching use counting techniques, resulting in shared patterns. The name is believed to describe its origin from Egypt or the historical trade route between Egypt and Gaza.
