Pasha’s Tent Motifs
This collection features variations of the Tatreez motif known as Khemet el Basha, also referred to as Pasha's Tent. In the Ottoman Empire, a Pasha, a high-ranking official, would travel with luxurious tents that served as both portable residences and offices as well as a symbol of status and prestige.
The Khemet el Basha motif is notably featured in 19th and 20th-century traditional Palestinian embroidery, often arranged in rows or columns. There are numerous variations of this motif. Motifs, such as the Moon (Qamar), Discs, and the Moon Feather Motif, share a symmetrical geometric Pasha’s Tent pattern resembling an indented square.
