Tatreez Color Palette
Traditional Palestinian Tatreez is known for its rich and vibrant color palettes. Across Palestine, embroidery was used not only as decoration, but also as a visual language that reflected regional identity, local traditions, and personal expression.
While many motifs and stitching techniques were shared between regions, color combinations often varied from village to village. Certain areas became known for specific palettes, allowing embroidered dresses and textiles to carry subtle clues about where they came from.
Deep reds were especially common throughout Palestinian embroidery and remain one of the most recognizable colors associated with traditional Tatreez today. Other shades, including blues, greens, oranges, pinks, and purples, were also used depending on the region, materials available, and the style of the garment being created.
The colors chosen for a Tatreez piece do more than add beauty. They help tell a story about heritage, regional traditions, and the artistic choices passed down through generations of Palestinian embroiderers.
